An Unexpected Adventure: Marine Cleanup and Circular Economy on an Outing with the "Stenella"

During one of our recent outings aboard the "Stenella," what began as a tourist experience turned into an opportunity to care for the environment and contribute to the education of future generations. It all happened during a snorkeling excursion in the Palma Bay Reserve when, while exploring the seabed with a family of tourists, we spotted something out of place: a Mercury engine submerged in the sandy bottom.

This engine, lying on the seabed, not only posed a risk of pollution due to the oils and metals it contained but also represented a challenge to our environmental consciousness. We decided that we couldn't leave it there, polluting the environment and threatening marine life. With the help of our visitors and the "Stenella" team, we managed to extract the engine from the water and transport it back to the Yacht Club (CNA), where our boat is docked.

Upon arriving at the CNA, the club's team helped us clean and secure the engine for temporary storage. It was then that the idea of giving this discovery an educational purpose arose. We decided to donate it to the CEIP Náutico Pesquero, a local institution where young students are trained in boat mechanics and maintenance. There, the engine will become a practical learning tool for the students, allowing them to develop essential technical skills.

This action reflects a commitment to the circular economy, a model that seeks to minimize waste by reusing and recycling products whenever possible. By rescuing this engine from the sea and giving it a new educational purpose, we not only prevented it from becoming another pollutant but also contributed to the training of future professionals in the nautical sector. In this way, we transformed a discarded object into a valuable resource for the community.

In addition to education and training, this initiative also encourages reflection on how our actions at sea can have a positive impact on the local economy and the conservation of natural resources. The "Stenella" is not only a boat designed to enjoy the sea sustainably but also a vehicle for positive change and environmental awareness.

Every small effort to protect our oceans counts. We want to thank everyone who participated in this action and demonstrated that with small decisions, we can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
